Too many of us are waiting for someone else to solve the climate problem for us.
One of the founding principles of Apella was to do things differently, and to inspire through action.
As a result, Apella are founder members of My Carbon Zero, an initiative of the Pond Foundation, which helps firms and individuals take immediate, serious, and credible climate action. Members commit to four simple steps:
Reduce their own emissions
Reduce emissions elsewhere without offsetting
Remove their lifetime carbon emissions from the atmosphere
Inspire others to join the journey
The My Carbon Zero team have audited Apella and calculated both our lifetime and ongoing carbon emissions. In doing so they have created for us a Lifetime Carbon Balance Sheet. This is a relatively modest 42 tCO2e on a lifetime basis and 2 tCO2e per employee on an ongoing annual basis.

My Carbon Zero has established a Carbon Investment Portfolio for Apella to remove 100% of our historic Carbon Balance from the atmosphere. We have actioned that investment and will continue to do so on an annual basis.
Our investments are spread across four My Carbon Zero initiatives, specifically:
Our investment level in the projects is designed to remove all the carbon the firm has emitted since inception and address our ongoing emissions. As we grow our business we commit to exploring, and where practical actioning all options to reduce our emissions on a per employee basis.
We will report on our progress against this aim every twelve months as well as the environmental, social, and negative carbon returns our investments are achieving.
