The CEO - CAD dynamic - how to get the best out of your relationship with the boss

Tuesday, 30 November 2021: 0800-1000

Royal Society of Arts, 8 John Adam St, London WC2N 6EZ

Arrival: 08.00
Recording: 08.30-09.30
Ends: 10.00

It’s an unusual relationship, the one between the CEO and Corporate Affairs Director. Aside from perhaps only the CFO, the CAD gets more time with the boss than any other member of the leadership team. Given the critical role of communicating with the myriad of stakeholders upon which the success of the firm depends, you have to admit, it makes sense.

And yet, you are also a key member of the senior team. They are your equals. Unless that is you’ve fallen into the Consiglieri trap, where you are prioritising the needs of the CEO, overtly or not, above all else. If that happens many will consider that you’re no longer part of that senior team, you’ve become the CEO’s person.

Given the role the CAD plays, how can you best balance the needs of the CEO and the senior leadership team? How can you manage the CEO that wants to be the centre of attention, or conversely is a shrinking violet? How do you advise with either brutal honesty or a light touch and maintain a positive relationship? How do you manage the transfer of power from one CEO to another and keep your job?

To discuss these and lots of related questions we are joined by four senior experts:

 · Alex Cole, former Chief Customer and Corporate Affairs Officer, Bupa

·  Victoria McKenzie-Gould, Corporate Affairs Director, M&S

·  Ed Petter, Corporate Affairs Director, BT

·  Fi Thorne, former Corporate Affairs Director, Flutter

Chairing proceedings will be Apella Partner, Andrew Brown and Matthew Wall from Taylor Bennett.

This Little Questions LIVE event will be recorded, with an edited version published in early 2022.

We do hope you will be able to join us.

Places are strictly limited so please book early by emailing la@apellaadvisors.com
