Identifying reputational risks and mitigation advice for a large private equity firm
Sector: Financial services; Private equity
Services: Strategic communications: Reputation strategy development
The large UK private equity firm wanted to understand the digital reputation risks it was exposed to.
We used open-sourced data to trawl for content, sentiment and stakeholders that related to the private equity firm and its portfolio. We did the same for key competitors. A team with detailed knowledge of the client and their reputation, then analysed the data in order to identify relevant themes and risks. This formed the basis of our advice to the firm’s leadership.
Our detailed analysis of the issues the private equity firm and its portfolio were associated with online enabled us to advise on likely areas of sensitivity and possible reputational risk. Additionally, we mapped the key digital influencers and how they varied from offline influencers. Included in this work we analysed the use of social and digital media of the PE firm’s own investors so the client could better understand how investors viewed and engaged with the PE firm.
At the end of the process the client had visibility on a series of reputational risks – and the sources of those risks – that it had previously been unaware of.
