Measuring a globally renowned educational institution’s reputation

Sector: Education; Institution

Services: Data & insights: Reputation risk insights

Following a period of significant public-eye incidents, we gained an understanding of the extent to which key risk events drove the reputation of one of the world’s leading academic institutions.  We compared and contrasted its academic reputation to its overall reputation by undertaking a deep dive into the reputation sentiment trends, benchmarking the organisation against key sector issues and a defined set of peers.

Looking over a 12 month period, we created a robust data set of all mentions of the organisation and peers across all externally available data sources in the UK. We scored and categorised the data to identify trends, using a uniquely created reputation risk and sector issues-based taxonomy.

The outcomes were:

  • Identification and development of learnings from key issues to allow application in the future.

  • Recognition of the momentum that the organisation’s corporate reputation has, what drove this and its ability to rebuild post a crisis.

  • Improved classification of reputation risk factors vs peer performance and identification of areas to develop and apply effort for increased sentiment impact.
