About Apella Advisors

Apella Advisors is a business advisory firm that helps organisations grow and succeed by making changes for the better.

We do this using the power of purpose, reputation, and communications.

Establishing and maintaining a strong reputation - which remains critical for organisational growth - has become increasingly complex.

Understanding the power of reputation, and the interdependencies that it relies on, requires both skill and experience. This means that it has become more important than ever for the C-Suite and their corporate affairs colleagues to have access to experienced advisors to help join the dots between reputation and growth.

Apella Advisors exists to be that experienced advisor.

We use our experience, expertise, and data-led insight to help organisations build, protect, and enhance their reputation.

We do this by working with clients to devise and deliver engagement strategies for a broad range of stakeholders and those that influence them, including the media, internal audiences, policymakers, and regulators.

Our services are designed to give our clients the confidence they need to make changes for the better, and to walk alongside them to inspire and stretch their ambition. For a full list of our services, please refer to our website.

What is it like to work with us?

  • We are still a young business. New recruits, at all levels, have an opportunity to shape our organisation - from the services we provide to our culture. Because we aren’t set in our ways, we look for curious minds that can challenge the status quo or give us a new lens to look through.

  • We operate a partnership model and ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate in the growth and success of our firm.

  • We can set our own direction of travel and choose the right partners to support us as we need them. We think that this helps us deliver the very best results for our clients.

  • We build client teams based on experience, expertise and interests - not hierarchies. We operate as one, and draw on thinking from across our organisation to solve problems.

  • We expect our partners to work as closely with our most junior people, as they would with each other.

  • We are a responsible business. We exist to help make the world a better place - which flows through who we work with, how we operate and how we treat our people.

  • We give our people the opportunity to work with high profile and exciting clients, grappling some of the most interesting and complex reputational challenges of our time. We operate across a broad range of sectors, meaning our people get a varied experience.

Employment Opportunity

As an Associate, you will provide day-to-day support to partners and directors across Apella’s whole client base. The role requires a self-starter who can adapt quickly and work across a range of briefs.

We are an inclusive firm and the role will give you the opportunity to work closely with senior members of the team, including directly with partners. You will deliver research that underpins strategy work, provide reputational insight from data, and have the opportunity to be a key member of our client teams.

What we’re looking for:

Confidence, strong-interpersonal skills, natural curiosity, absolute discretion, an interest in media and advisory services and a willingness to organise and improve are all essential ingredients to making this role a success.

Knowledge / Skills

  • A keen attention to detail

  • Highly organised with the ability to multi-task across a range of subjects and clients

  • Strong research and writing skills and an ability to produce timely, accurate and well-written documents

  • The ability to formulate actionable insights from data, presenting recommendations based on your findings, which would feed into an overall strategy for clients

  • A natural ability to connect and build relationships with clients, prospects, and the Apella team

  • An understanding of - and willingness to engage with - current affairs (from politics and policy through to media) and the operating contexts of clients

Background / Experience

We are looking for someone who has an interest in or experience working within strategic / corporate communications.

Experience in one or more of the following would be preferable but not essential:

  • Knowledge of and keen interest in media, media relations and media engagement, with a preference towards business and finance media

  • Work experience in communications, either in-house or in an agency

  • Experience working with a media monitoring and evaluation tool and a basic understanding of data analysis, using Excel

Key Responsibilities

  • Being a key member of our client teams which would involve daily contact with clients at all levels of their organisation

  • Staying abreast of the national news agenda and anything related to client sectors

  • Provision of timely and accurate research to support the day-to-day activities of Apella’s partners and directors

  • Preparing briefing notes for clients on policy issues

  • Drafting press releases and identifying media opportunities

  • Undertaking and presenting reputational analyses of clients and prospects

  • Contributing to client campaigns

  • Engaging with various stakeholders, within the client organisation, national and trade media and third parties.

  • Helping to develop strategies for our clients including ESG & social value strategies, brand development, employee engagement etc.

  • Attendance at external training and networking events
